Experiential Anatomy & Yoga Retreat Cornwall

Dog Friendly

June 16th - 20th 2019

River Beach.jpg

Dogs welcome. Dogma not!

Join us in glorious Cornwall for an immersive few days of all things mindful and movement - inquisitive vinyasa flow asana, in-depth anatomy and movement workshops, breathing, yoga nidra, meditation and chanting and delicious food cooked by incomparable chef and my loving girlfriend Sal founder of Breadren.

As a yoga and Pilates teacher, yoga teacher trainer and student of Osteopathy, I have been exploring the anatomy of movement, debunking common yoga alignment cues and helping students fully embody their movement practices by gaining a deeper understanding of the ways their unique bodies want to flow for almost 10 years. This retreat is all about sharing those ideas, bringing together scientific and traditional knowledge, creating new patterns and unlocking the body to soothe the mind.

We know the word "retreat" means different things to different people, you might want to spend time alone or with others, you might want a week to detox or maybe time to let your hair down, you might want to eat only vegetables or only chocolate.

With that in mind, we encourage you to join in with as many or as few of the activites as you wish. If you'd rather have a lie in than come to yoga, get cosy and enjoy catching those extra zzz's. But if you wanted even more activity, we are all available for reduced price 1:1 yoga and cooking sessions during the retreat.

The Venue

Lower Marsh Farm

Border of Devon and Cornwall

You will be staying in the beautiful Tamar Valley, awarded Silver in the Cornwall Tourism Awards Self Catering Property of the Year category and Highly Commended in their Wildlife Friendly Tourism Business Award category.

They have private woodlands, an orchard with a hammock for relaxing and admiring the view, a tennis court, hot tub  and their own Salt Marsh Nature Reserve that borders Lake Kingsmill on the River Tamar.  Take a short walk down to the waterfront during low tide to enjoy the private shingle beach.

With herons, buzzards, egrets, kingfishers, pheasants, owls and bats galore, Lower Marsh Farms offers the nature lover over 40 acres of opportunities for rambling, bird watching, or just enjoying some peace and quiet. The farm is managed in a gentle and environmentally friendly manner, you can read more here.

There are three cottages, so any dogs coming can be separated to have some quiet down time and all the rooms are twin beds, with either 2 or 3 people sharing a room. Each cottages has it’s own unique style, with areas to sit and relax, kitchens to make snacks outside of meal times and bathrooms for some relaxing pampering time.

We will be bringing our own two lovely little dogs, Billie and Soba, once we see how many dogs are booked we will arrange a form of dog care for during the yoga classes, if needed, either a dog sitter we will bring with us, or a local dog sitter which the venue recommends.

You can plan your own journey by looking at the instructions on the venue’s website, we may also be able to assist in collecting you from the station.

The Teacher

My teaching style is fluid, inspired by my anatomy and Osteopathy studies to create an intelligent, alignment based approach yet also being creative, inspired by the freedom of Scaravelli and my dance background. I back away from micromanaging my students, preferring to give just enough cues to empower them to find the best way for their unique bodies, but targeting the exact areas to open and contract, making my classes accessible and stealthily challenging!

I guide students to practice from a place of mindful engagement, rather than creating more strain, tension and ego. I feel no teacher is beyond questioning and I am constantly considering what I am offering to ensure it is dogma free, current and evolving, whilst still deeply honouring tradition.

The Food

All of the food will be lovingly prepared by Sal, who is the head chef and founder of Breaden. She was trained at the renowned Leith's School of Food and Wine and she finds inspiration from her African and Indian heritage as well as her London roots to create flavours that are truly unique, seeing her win awards and gain a reputation for being a talented cuisinière.

She refers to her style of food as "inclusive eating" as she caters for those who want to live sugar free, vegan, dairy free and gluten free as well as those looking for more indulgent, classic treats. All too frequently free-from foods are lacking in the taste and texture categories and are often filled with processed alternatives and artificial sweeteners and flavourings. She lets the natural beauty of her ethically sourced, seasonal ingredients shine through, you have to taste it to believe it!

Our incredibly talented chef will prepare you simple, varied and delicious meals every day with all food being vegetarian with vegan options. Breakfast will mostly be granola, fruit platters, fresh bread, condiments and smoothies and a few home baked healthy muffins. Lunch will be a fresh, tasty salad and something healthy to satisfy your sweet tooth and dinner will be seasonal vegetarian and vegan salads, stews and platters.

The group will go out for 1 lunch (not included in the price), although if you would prefer to stay at the cottages for some quiet time there will be plenty of food for you to cook for yourself.
